Shape Trace & Draw Practice Pack

  • Preschool & Kindergarten

Choose large contours, size-and-space practice or shape pictures. Each section is a complete six-page download; all 18 pages are also available together.

This free 18-page A4 collection has three optional six-page sections: large closed contours, the same contours at different sizes and in different spaces, and picture building with a complete model. Circle, oval, square, rectangle, triangle and diamond remain the drawing vocabulary. An adult can demonstrate one outline; the child may choose tracing, copying or a different picture. Download any whole section or all three without an account. The sections are a menu, not a geometry test, age checklist or prerequisite for letters.

Practice fit

Who this pack is for

Parents, teachers and homeschool educators choosing a short preschool or kindergarten drawing activity. Use it when the child wants to try following a simple contour with adult support; the stage label is not an age requirement.

Scope boundary

When to choose another pack

Not a shape-naming test, counting-sides workbook, full geometry course, developmental assessment or therapy resource. Children do not have to finish this set before trying names or letters.

Choose your next practice

3 complete sections, or one collection

Choose a task you want to try. Each download is a complete section, with its own models, practice space and check. You can repeat or skip any section; all pages are also available together.

Section 1 · 6 pages · A4

Large contours

Choose one of six large closed contours to trace and draw.

The original six pages with two same-size tracing outlines and two empty drawing spaces.

Another time: Keep using a large contour, try a different space, or choose a picture.

Section 2 · 6 pages · A4

Size and space

Draw the same contour at different sizes, choosing a roomy or smaller space.

Two model sizes, different tracing sizes and different frame widths; not the original two equal spaces.

Another time: Repeat a size that felt comfortable, or use some shapes in a picture.

Section 3 · 6 pages · A4

Build a picture

Use closed shapes to make a robot, rocket, fish, flower, train or your own banner.

A complete picture model, optional contour palette and a 164 × 82 mm drawing space; pictures may differ.

Another time: Make a different picture using the same outlines, or revisit one contour with more help.

Inside the PDF

Look, trace, draw

Models and tracing shapes use the same 54 mm square. Each empty drawing frame gives you 76 × 64 mm of space. An adult can demonstrate one contour before a short attempt.

Look at a large model

A sun, balloon, window, door, tent or kite gives the closed outline a simple picture context.

Trace a light outline

Two solid light-gray shapes are available. Choose one, or try the second if wanted.

Draw your own

Two empty frames leave the same amount of space. Copy with the model visible, or cover it with spare paper for an optional try.

Choose a shape in the PDF

Triangle — a tent outline. Actual page 5: a triangular tent model, two light triangle outlines and two empty drawing spaces.

How to practise with the pack

  1. 01

Choose one page together. Point to the large shape inside the little picture and show its outline with a finger.

  2. 02

An adult demonstrates the curve or turns. There are no numbered strokes or claims of one required drawing direction.

  3. 03

Try one light-gray shape. The second tracing shape is optional.

  4. 04

Draw the shape in one empty frame with the model visible. If wanted, cover the models and tracing row with spare paper before another try.

  5. 05

Read the page’s one check together. Try another space or return to the page list another day; stop whenever a short attempt is enough.

Choose a short pre-writing activity

Adult demonstration, easier options and places to stop, including activities without a worksheet.

Self-check after one short session

  • Curved shapes: does the line close?
  • Cornered shapes: do the lines meet at the corners or points?

Common mistakes to avoid

  1. 01

Tracing the dotted drawing frame instead of drawing inside it.

  2. 02

Expecting a perfect copy or requiring every space to be filled.

  3. 03

Turning the picture context into extra lines the child must copy.

  4. 04

Treating six pages as a required learning sequence.

Questions about this pack

Can I download just one section or the whole collection?

Yes. Each of the three sections is a complete six-page PDF, and the complete collection contains all 18 pages in one file. No account is required. Section choices do not have to be completed in order.

What changes between the shape sections?

Large contours is the original set. Size and space changes model size and available drawing space. Build a picture adds complete picture models, optional outline palettes and space for a different drawing.

Do we have to print or complete every page?

No. Select a single page in the print dialog and try one outline or empty space. The page order is not a required difficulty sequence.

Are the empty frames for tracing?

No. Draw inside them. Look at the model for a copy, or place spare paper over the models and tracing row for an optional attempt without looking.

Does my child need these before learning letters?

No. Choose a current task: drawing shapes, tracing a line, writing a name or forming a letter. These pages are one optional drawing activity, not a prerequisite or developmental test.

Download and print the complete pack

Print on A4, portrait, at Actual Size or 100%, with printer headers and footers off. Check that the light-gray outlines are visible. The drawing frames are 76 × 64 mm; the shape area inside is 54 × 54 mm. The dotted frame is a space to draw inside, not another line to trace. Do not shrink to fit several pages on one sheet.
